This is a story about a special and unreserved woman who has been exposed to a hostile environment but continuously and fearlessly struggling for her ideal life. The story can be interpreted as a symbol of the independent spirit.

It seems to me that many readers’ English reading experience starts with Jane Eyer. I am of no exception. As we refer to the movie “Jane Eyer”, it is not surprising to find some differences because of its being filmized and retold in a new way, but the spirit of the novel remains----to be an independent person, both physically and mentally.

Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Lowwood Orphanage began, she didn’t get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a common person, just the same as any other girl around. The suffers from being humiliated and devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over anything else.As a reward of revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thornfield Garden. There she made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner, Rochester, a man with warm heart despite a cold face outside. Jane expected to change the life from then on, but fate had decided otherwise: After Jane and Rochester fell in love with each other and got down to get marry, she unfortunately came to know in fact Rochester had got a legal wife, who seemed to be the shadow following

Rochester and led to his moodiness all the time ----Rochester was also a despairing person in need of salvation. Jane did want to give him a hand, however, she made up her mind to leave, because she didn’t want to betray her own principles, because she was Jane Eyer. The film has finally got a symbolist end: Jane inherited a large number of legacies and finally returned. After finding Rochester’s misfortune brought by his original mad wife, Jane chose to stay with him forever.

I don’t know what others feel, but frankly speaking, I would rather regard the section that Jane began her teaching job in Thornfield as the film’s end----especially when I heard Jane’s words “Never in my life have I been awaken so happily.” For one thing, this ideal and brand-new beginning of life was what Jane had been imagining for long as a suffering person; for another, this should be what the audiences with my views hoped her to get. But the professional judgment of producing films reminded me to wait for a totally different result: There must be something wrong coming with the excellence----perhaps not only should another section be added to enrich the story, but also we may see from the next transition of Jane’s life that “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you would get.” (By Forrest Gump’s mother, in the film “Forrest Gump”)

What’s more, this film didn’t end when Jane left Thornfield. For Jane Eyer herself, there should always be somewhere to realize her great ideal of being independent considering her fortitude, but for Rochester, how he can get salvation?

The film gives the answer tentatively: Jane eventually got back to Rochester. In fact, when Jane

met Rochester for the first time, she scared his horse and made his heel strained, to a certain extent, which meant Rochester would get retrieval because of Jane. We can consider Rochester’s experiences as that of religion meaning. The fire by his frantic wife was the punishment for the cynicism early in his life. After it, Rochester got the mercy of the God and the love of the woman whom he loved. Here we can say: human nature and divinity get united perfectly in order to let such a story accord with the requirements of both two sides. The value of this film may be due to its efforts to explore a new way for the development of humanism under the faith of religion.

Life is ceaselessly changing, but our living principles remain. Firmly persisting for the rights of being independent gives us enough confidence and courage, which is like the beacon over the capriccioso sea of life. In the world of the film, we have found the stories of ourselves, which makes us so concerned about the fate of the dramatis personae.

In this era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing life complexity and psychological displacement, both physical and mental effects on us call for a balance. We are likely to find ourselves bogged down in the Sargasso Sea of information overload and living unconsciousness. It’s our spirit that makes the life meaningful.

Heart is the engine of body, brain is the resource of thought, and great films are the mirrors of life. In

dubitably, “Jane Eyer” is one of them.

Jane Eyre

《Jane Eyre》 is a novel with a propensity for autobiography. Its writer, Charlotte Bronte, was born in a poor and calamitous family. They lived in a remote and backward place. It was when the revolution was in progress. The country was changing from agriculture to industry and the newly emerging bourgeoisie were expanding. These all left marks in the novel. The novel mainly describes the complicated love story between Jane Eyre and Rochester to portray a strong woman who was born humbly and lived difficultly but always persist to uphold her independent personality and pursue free individuality and advocate the equality of human life. Jane Eyre lived under another’s roof with her parents both dead. She bore different treatment form contemporaries’: Aunt’s disliking and avoiding her; cousins’ disdain, insult and beating. However, she was not desperate or didn’t destroy herself or sink into those insults. All of the misfortunes bring Jane infinite confidence, sturdy spirit and a kind of inside personality strength which can’t be defeated.

When facing Rochester, Jane never feel herself inferior because of she was a humble family teacher. She thought they were equal and she shouldn’t be disrespected because she was a servant. It was her being upright, noble, and pure that made Rochester get shocked and regard her as one can talk equally with himself in spirit. And he fell in love with her gradually. His true heart moved her and she accepted him. But when Jane

knew Rochester had a wife already, she decided she must leave. She felt her pride was hurt since she loved Rochester deeply. And she made a pretty rational decision. When there was a strong power of love and a allure of nice and wealthy life, she still insist on her individual pride. This is what reflected Jane’s spirit glamour most.

Charlotte Bronte was born in Yorkshire, England on April 21, 1816. Charlotte’s father was a poor pastor in her hometown, and her mother was a quite housewife. She was the third of the children.

After reading the novel, the image in the story may catch our attention. For instance, the fire image appeared in the story for dozens of times in different chapters. But no matter where it was put, it had symbolic meanings in some chapters, It was the symbol of warmth and happiness ,while in other place it was the symbol of humanity and friendship, sometimes it even represented de

strutive power. In the story, the fire image impressed us a lot while reading it,we could say fire is a symbol of human civilization and forcus of the social and family life. Thus, fire plays an important role in the frame of the novel. At the ,fire was the symbol of warmth and happy family life . Jane Eyre who was a strongwilled woman, tried her best to fight for her own happiness and love as well as freedom, for example “Now,let me leave you an instant to make a good fire?” , in this sentance we can see that rochester saw the magic power of “fire” in love ang this became a critical element to promote their .Thus, life was impartable from the fire, once the fire died out,the would be disappearing.

Fire existed everywhere in this great novel ,when Jane and Helen were invited to dinner by Mr.Temple, the fire also plyed an important role as Janeeager to win the friendship of the others and it could make her felt warm and comfortable.Trough reading the novel ,it was easy to know that the love between Jane and Rochester was not smooth because true love should stand the test of fire .Facing Rochester’s prpose,Jane on the top of the sky and it seemed that her spirit was lifted. But this feeling just last a short period of time as the news that Rochester had got a wife almost drove Jane mad.The fire of love was set up but put out .But the fire set up again years later as the love between them had never fade away.

People always the beautiful aspect of the fire ,but they never knew that fire was a terrible thing . It bring us happinessbut it also could give us disaster. In the novel,Rochester’mad wife set s fire and lost her life .Rochester also lost his property and eyesight in order to save her wife’life. That is to say .this fire destroyed life ,fortune and health.

In all, we an see that fire had two opposite aspects. On the one hand ,it made the world warm ,harmonious, wonderful. But on the other hand , it can destroy life ,fortune and health. In addition, Jane’s personality fire, she was kind hearted and sentimental and she also had character. Thus , it was this kind of “fire” that made her independent nd happy again. It was easy to see that throughout

the story. Jane Eyre behaved strong-minded enough to her love and brave enough to seek her own independence. These are all the reflections of fire in her deep heart. Though lived in a cruel society and suffered from abuse, she never gave up, because the fire was always on in her heart which prevented her from giving into the convention.

At last,to be frank, Jane’s ideal life is the reflection of the Charlotte Bronte’s thoughts. Maybe we can say that Charlotte uses this great novels to express her feelings on the contemporary society.

Jane Eyre

About the author: Charlotte Bronte (April 21, 1816- March 31, 1855) was one of the greatest novelists in England. He was born at Thornton, in Yorkshire, England. His wife was Maria Branwell who died of cancer on 15 September 1821 leaving five daughters and one son to her sister. He was the eldest of the three Bronte sisters. And his novels have become enduring classics of English literature. Although his life in this city was narrow and limited, his novel was full of imagination and passion. He is famous as this book and was well know in the world.

The book: Jane Eyre is a poor orphan with a joyless life as a child at the beginning of the chapters. She had on her shoulder with all misfortune that came from the society and nature. She had no parents, no money. She was a weak girl in men’s world. What’s more, she was not beautiful. She was raised by her wealthy aunt Mrs. Reed. However, Mrs. Reed and her children were not kind to Jane. She had a strong character which made her lose glamour, because she won’t bow her head to others. Jane’s plain, passionate nature and intelligent, combined with her vivid dreams, certainly do not help to get affections from her aunt and relatives. She was not the same as other leading ladies in some great love story of the world, while she owned these activities. People saw her all kinds of lack and told her to receive the fact. Don’t be full of extravagant hopes to life. But Jane didn’t want to hear about these words and accept the fact. She rejected to accept her lowliness in people’s eyes. She hoped people to accept her true features. Maybe she was lowliness, but she was the owner of her life; maybe she was not beautiful, but she was worth to be loved by others. The book’s ending made me feel very warm. Jane married Rochester in the end. And they had their first kid. Rochester cured one of his eyes. All of these scene made me think a warm and sweet picture.

My view: This is the third time I read Jane Eyre. Each time when I finished reading this book, I must be touched by Jane’s spirit. As you know, she was a little girl, but she teaches me a lot on how to face with my life in the future. In my opinion, I think Jane was very brave. Although she met a lot of difficult in her life, she still believed the real love. She kept a warm heart all the time. According to read this book, I think all of us should keep an optimistic attitude in our life. Sometimes maybe we will meet some difficult, then we need to calm down, only in this way, we could find some ways to deal with these difficult successfully. Sometimes we need to think outside of the box. All roads lead to Roma! That’s right. Just do it sometimes. If you think too much about other people’s attitude, maybe you won’t be a successful man forever. We don’t need to keep the same pace with others all the time. Nowadays the society need all kinds of talents, so just be brave as Jane. In this book, I think the author want to tell the important of the women’s independence. While in that times, women had few rights, so Jane’s independence made us know about the author’s hope clearly. The author made Jane have a strong character which made us be touched. So she was a successful and happy woman. Jane Eyre is regarded as the typical of the independent women. I hope there are more and more people should represent themselves bravely whatever poor or wealth, beauty or ugly. I hope everyone has an independent and a strong character. Be ourselves! I really appreciate Jane’s brilliant character. She never exchanged false ways for people’s love. She just lived in her world with her own wishes and thoughts. I think life is like this, we shouldn’t hide ourselves in the shade and other people’s shade. Do not experience rains and winds, how can we see the rainbow. So don’t get away from life. Face with this world bravely and shout for the sky-“we can!” Everyone has the rights to express his opinions, because you are the only one in the world.
