After the appreciation of the film “Titanic”, I have noticed some meaningful details behind the peoples' general impression of simply an affectional film. The wreck of the Titanic occurred in 1912, in which the great recession started from the end of the 19th Century still hasn't ended. Most critics pointed out that the sinking of the Titanic represents the collapse of the Capitalism in the end of the 19th Century. However, I would like to say that, in this movie, the director had not only foreran the crisis of the Capitalism, but also showed some of the human nature, from both gloomy and brilliant aspects, like selfish, mammonish, vainglorious, and love, hope, bravery, faith, and so on. In this essay, I will first reveal this film's indication of the social context of that age, then I will analyse the two contrary aspects of human nature indicated in this film through some impressive shots.

Under the development of industrial technology, the economy in the Capitalism

countries took off. People lived a rich, luxury and expensive life, and this rapid economic development lasted for almost 20 years. People had got used to this kind of life. The huge development in machinery changed people's life greatly. Innovations of transportation, such as vehicles and tankers, allowed people to travel around. The appearance of these modern transportations was an important milestone of the industrialization. People thus became very confident on human intellectual capabilities. They believed their power of conquering the nature is inapproachable. While the Titanic is also called “The Ship of

Dreamers”, in this film, when it bearing in with the ocean in the darkness, the mysterious ocean represents the unknown nature and the ship itself represents the advanced material capabilities people owned. In a shot that Mr Bruce explains his design of the Titanic, he said “the ship possesses huge size, stability, luxury, and strength”, and that“ the supremacy will never be challenged”。 In fact, all these words can be thought of the symbols of the Capitalism of that time in many people's eyes. They thought the Capitalism

is just like the Titanic, which should be “unsinkable”。 The wonderful way of developing economy would stay in good condition eternally. However, things do not always follow the way people wish to be. The economic recession suddenly attacked the Capitalism countries at the end of the 19th Century. It was not until then that people did not realize the impracticality of their idealized “unsinkable” Capitalism. Capitalism will sink. And

unfortunately it did sink. Just like the movie shows, when the ship broke into two parts and began to sink quicker and quicker, everybody knows the ship is going to sink, the priest kept reiterating to the disciples,“ the former would has passed away.”

As to the human nature uncovered in this film, can be thought of from both negative and positive aspects. I will first elucidate some gloomy characteristics revealed by the film. The first impressive characteristic may be that the fiancé of Rose, Karl would gain his ends by fair means or foul. When he noticed that Rose has obliquity with Jack, he took out the necklace with a diamond of 56 carats named “the heart of the ocean”, to request Rose not to leave him. He knows that Rose doesn't love him, but he chose to use money to keep Rose with him. When Titanic was sinking, both Jack and Karl were trying to trick Rose into getting on the accident boat. Since Karl had already bribed a sailor, he lied to Rose that he would ensure that Jack will also get on the boat. Nevertheless, when Karl himself was rejected to get on the accident boat, he again used an intrigue that he picked up an outcast child and pretended to be the father of the child, and managed to get on the accident boat. Another negative social mood of that time exposed by the film is vanity. Rose's mother wanted to marry her daughter to Karl just because Karl is extremely rich, while she doesn't care whether Rose loves him or not. When Jack wearing a suit borrowed from a woman to attend the dinner invited by Karl, he was respected by other guests. However, when he wore his own clothes maybe a little bit shabby, and tried to enter the ballroom to look for Rose, he was driven out by the two guards outside the ballroom. The two respondences depending on Jack's appearance contrasted sharply, and really very shocking for us to imagine a society like that. Anyway, there are some brilliant aspects of human nature showed in this film. There is love, bravery, faith, and beliefs existing at the scene. The presence of love was impenetrated through the whole film. The love is not only expressed between Jack and Rose, but also exists among the families. When the water was poured into the ship, when men are forced to be obstructed from their wives and children, an old couple held each other tightly in the bed; a father comforted his daughter he will just leave her for a while, just a little while… When Titanic was sinking, some musicians were performing pieces of music, some disciples were praying to Virgin Mary around the priest on their knees…

In conclusion, the film of “Titanic” is not simply an affectional story between Jack and Rose. It shows more than love. The wreck of Titanic represents the collapse of the

Capitalism, which is considered “unsinkable” by most people. The film also shows different aspects of human nature. Some people own strong vainglory, while some other possess much of love; still others are rich in firm faith and beliefs. We should always keep in mind

that, no matter how enormous the calamity is, no matter how defective the people are, we should believe there are always more virtue than vice in the world…

Will your love really go on and on? Approximately one hundred years ago, a colossal passenger liner called Titanic departed from Southampton in Britain for New York in the US. This was the Titanic’s debut voyage. As everyone seems to know this giant ship, which was regarded as unsinkable at the time, sank before reaching New York because of a collision with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean. More than 1000 people tragically died because of the shortage of life boats.

In 1997, based on the story of this miserable shipwreck, a film, directed by the very talented James Cameron, hit the cinema and became a huge success, with an unprecedented box office. The film described itself as "the love story that stole the world's hearts"1. Apparently, Titanic tells us an impressive love story more than a maritime disaster story.

It was in the second year of the junior high school when I first watched Titanic, and I can still remember that all the students of 3 classes sat in the multimedia room to watch the film, with Chinese subtitles, played by our English teacher. At that time, I spoke highly of the love between Rose and Jack because they seemed to be a perfect match and they were willing to do anything for each other regardless of their own safety, while I thought Cal, who was Rose’s wealthy fiancé, despicable because of his arrogance and snobbishness. A notable thing in this movie is the theme song, “My heart will go on,” which won four Grammy awards and reached number-one in more than twenty-five countries.

1 From the commercial analysis of Titanic on Wikipedia

Now, however, as I re-watch the film, I am going to ask “Will the love between Rose and Jack really go on?” and “Is Cal a really distasteful man?” Rose is Cal’s fiancée and they would have been together and enjoyed their luxurious royal life if there was no contingency and the ship had reached its destination. However, this relationship changed with the appearance of Jack, a handsome but needy guy. By all means, Jack is the other man of Rose's life, so it is Rose who betrays Cal, while Cal has given many opportunities to Rose.

There is a famous Chinese saying: you can’t be a true man if you take advantage of other people’s difficulties. Rose is in trouble because she is forced to marry Cal by her elegant and aristocratic mother due to his father’s debt. What’s more, Rose is fed up with the hypocrisy, arrogance, snobbishness, self-involvement, selfishness and vanity of the upper class people on Titanic. She is so desperate over her fate that she even decides to commit suicide by jumping into the icy sea before arriving at her destination, and her marriage, in New York. However, now a romantic and handsome man walks towards Rose, saying “You jump, I jump”. Jack seems to be the only one who can set Rose free from the prison built by her mother and Cal, so she decides that nothing can stop them from being together. In other words, Jack succeeds in conquering Rose because he can turn her on when she is desperate for someone to help her escape her miserable fate.

Will the love between Rose and Jack really last forever? Who knows! They both just have crush on each other and they were together just for a few days. A crush can feel like true love, but true love must be more than a crush. In Chinese culture,

epiphyllum is often a metaphor for something wonderful but short-lasting. Just like epiphyllum, a crush is always beautiful. You will keep dreaming about him or her and thinking about how bright and happy your future will be if you two are together. However, a crush is mostly based on the other person’s appearance. If you come across a bad-looking person, you would hardly have crush on him or her. Coincidently, Jack and Rose both possess fabulous looks just like angels do, so this makes it more plausible that the love between them is a crush. Usually a crush is more intense and crazy compared with true love because of people’s flaming passion and strong desire to get each other. Getting so carried away by step dancing in the third class, learning to spit towards sea and standing on the railing at the very front of the deck in the wind, all of those things sounds so romantic and crazy, but that is a tribute to the crush they have on each other. In this phase, you will get the person you love as the most important thing on your mind, so you can do anything for him or her. Therefore, at last of the film, Jack was frozen to death in the icy water but Rose kept her promise to go on her life. But does the crush last a very long time? My answer is MAYBE, but usually a crush fades away as time goes by because you would get used to your life with him or her and gradually you would think him or her not special anymore or even it would form a sort of fatigue. If Jack was still alive, Maybe Rose wouldn’t be able to stand the poor life because she was born in a rich family, or Rose would get tired of the life of rootless existence with Jack. Who knows?

It seems like that all the criticism goes to Cal, isn’t Cal is the real helpless one? He was supposed to marry Rose when they arrived at New York. However, Jack stole

Rose from him. Cal arranged the life boat for Rose and even put the Heart of Ocean into Rose’s pocket, which obviously embodies the fact that Cal loves Rose so much. To his disappointment, Rose turns her cold back to him again and again, and finally decides to choose Jack and betray him totally. No wonder that finally Cal turned to Jack and Rose and shouted with bitter irony that “I hope you enjoy your time together”. The poor man had been betrayed and he was absolutely broken-hearted and in utter desperation. If you were him, perhaps you would have acted like him as well.

Detroit News commented: “As spectacle, Titanic sets a new standard; as romantic drama, it's substandard,”2 but I have to say that Titanic is one of the greatest movies ever made and also one of my favorite movies. But I don’t agree that this movie is about the innocence of Jack and the callousness of Cal. It is about a romantic young man who caused a desperate girl to betray another man.

The film has been recorded in the movie history. The hero and the heroine are not very famous when they were choosen to act in the board of the so called most magnificent boat::"the Titanic'. The hero got a board ticket by playing poke.So he got the chance to go to the United States ,the country which was thought as the most dreaming land. when he went on board,he said to the wind;"I am king of the wind.'Later he saved a girl who was going to jump into the ocean .The Miss is the

elite class of the 20th century in Britan, but the buddy is just a poor guy who is bestowed on by God with good luck. The gap between their status in society are so wide in that times. But as a old proverb said ;love is something strange which begins so encouraging and sometimes end that discouraging. Dispite the obstscle about their love among the members of the miss's family. The sinking of the Titanic also made the lovers be aware of the cruelty of the reality. But it is life,it is common,no smooth road in love.the hero offered his devoted love to the heroine by encouraging her to get through the cold ice water with his genuine and heartening wishes to his lover.I am moved when it occurs that Rose waked after faint resulted from the coldness. She hands were still held by Jack, however his face had been so pale,he is really the protector who was safeguarding her with his thin body at the last minutes of his life.I am sad when Rose called out;"oh,Jack, come back, come back.........''She held his cold hands, his body was so icy and it was going to slip down into the ghostly chilling ocean water. She kissed his downing hands, murmured,;I will never let you go,I promise.'as she will miss Jack for all the rest of her life. She does not even has any picture of him,but he exists in her memory. May all the people of the world would value the virtue of love.Treat love with honesty and sincerity.

“come bace,come back,come back„„”露丝微弱的呼唤伴随着坚定的眼神,那眼神透着无比的决心,蕴含着对生命无限的渴求,她在绝望的边缘拼命挣扎,顽强的与死神搏斗。

YOU JUMP,I JUMP!”......

Recently ,the sutra movie <Tianic> has come back in a form of Three

Dimensions, which was directed by James Cameron in 1997 .It is very popular in China ,especially for the Chinese students. now that "Titanic" has become the top grossing film of all time - in the U.S. and the world.

The movie tell a love story about Rose and Jack. They met each other in

Titanic and fell in love rapidly .But finally the death took them apart.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the fastest way to cross the Atlantic Ocean was by ocean liner. All the sipping lines wanted their ships to be the biggest, and the fastest one. In 1912,The White Star Shipping Line was very

resounding when they announced that their"super ship"-the Titanic-was ready to make her first voyage across the Atlantic . The Titanic was going to be the largest and best ship in the world. She was also going to be the most luxurious and the safest ship on the seas. This was a ship that was going to be impossilbe to

sink..How big was the Titanic? She was more than 269 metres long. Imagine a line of 22 large London buses standing one behind the other! This may give you an idea about the Titanics size. If you were in a small ship at sea when it passed the Titanic, you might think that you were passing in front of a cloud. A big, black could that hid the daylight and the sunshine. But finally ,it sinked, which killed 1500 people.

Titanic is a romance, an adventure, and a thriller all rolled into one. It

contains moments of exuberance, humor, pathos, and tragedy. In their own way, the characters are all larger-than- life, but they're human enough to capture our sympathy. Perhaps the most amazing thing about Titanic is that, even though

Cameron carefully recreated the death of the ship in all of its terrible grandeur, the event never eclipses(掩盖) the protagonists(支持者). To the end, we never cease (终止)caring about Rose and Jack

Titanic, "not only because it is a successful commercial film and, more

importantly, it brought about the end of the century a wave of nostalgia: the Titanic sank in the early 20th century is a tragedy, the film has to The facts add up the true love story, set sail Titanic will be less than 5 days of love, friendship and a disaster at the end of the century before this generation, it told us a truth: that we must cherish life

"Titanic" reminds me of the distinctions between people of faith and

secularists. While all agree that death is inevitable and very often unexpected the religious and secularists do not agree on the behavior life's fragility should promote. Those of faith, know they may meet their Maker, at any moment at which time they will account for their sins. Their fear and deep love for God inspires them in their constant struggle for righteousness. To the secularist, life is short -- get what you want - when you want it, and in what ever way necessary. Our heros fit into the latter category。
