(1) Which of the following is right?

(2) Which of the following is not mentioned?

(3) Which of the following is Not True in the passage? (4) Choose the right order of this passage. (5) From this passage we know _______. …

31. The 26th World Universidad will begin on ______.

A. August 12th B. August 23rd C. September 12th D. September 23rd

The 26th World Universidad will be held in the city from August 12th to 23rd.

35. The four cities are all ___ according to the passage.

A. modern cities with a short history B. in New Zealand

C. near lakes, rivers or seas D. large cities

… It was built on small islands in saltwater lakes more than 1,500 years ago.

…In the seaside city, you can enjoy an amazing view from the city’s tallest tower—the Sky Tower.

…There are many beautiful beaches near the city.

…Visitors like to take boat rides along the Danube(多瑙河).

39. The underlined word “they” in the last paragraph refers to___. A.adaptations B.Darwin and Wallace C. animals D.Darwin's ideas

Darwin described how some animals have adaptations that ,offspring(后代).Darwin’s ideas about adaptations are still very important to the study of living things. 3.

47. Paragraph 3 tells us that ______.

A. our hands look similar

B. the microbes will make the keyboard dirty C. we should compare our hands often D. we have our own sets of microbes

“Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands.” That is to say, if you and your best friend were able to see and compare all the microbes on your hands, your hands probably would look different. Some microbes only show up on your hands while others live only on your friend’s hands.

文段3 主要针对“Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands.”

(1) The word “ ” in the passage probably means ____. (2) In this story the underlined word “ ” means ____.

27.The word “remote” in the first sentence means________

“A professor from New York University once went to a remote area to do some science research .One day, he ate something wrong and became sick, but it was too far to go back to the city.”

文段第二句中出现了“but it was too far to go back to the city.”

In the sea there are many islands. In its warm waters there are some little ones. We call them “Coral Islands “(珊瑚岛).

A coral island is very nice to look at. It looks like a ring of land(一圈陆地) with trees, grass, and flowers on it. One part of the ring is open to the water. There is a little round lake inside the island.

If you look into this lake, you will see beautiful coral. You may think they are flowers.

If you look at a piece of coral, you will see many little holes in it. In each of these holes a very small sea animal has lived. These sea animals make the coral.

They began to build under the water. Year after year, the coral grew higher and higher. At last it grew out of the water.

Then the sea brought to it small trees and something else. After some years, these things changed into earth. Sometimes the wind brought seeds to this earth. Sometimes birds flew over it and brought seeds(种子) to the island.

The little seeds grew. In a few years there were plants all over the island. In a few more years there were trees growing there.

When my family moved to America in 2010 from a small village in Guangdong, China, we brought not only our luggage, but also our village rules, customs and culture. One of the rules is that young people should always respect(尊敬) elders. Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment in the United States.

I had a part-time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. One time, when I was serving food to a middle-aged couple, the wife asked me how the food could be served so quickly. I told her that I had made sure they got their food quickly because I always respect the elderly. As soon as I said that, her face showed great displeasure. My manager, who happened to hear what I said, took me aside and gave me a long lecture about how sensitive(敏感) Americans are and how they dislike the description “old”. I then walked back to the table and apologized to the wife. After the couple heard my reason, they understood that the problem was caused by cultural differences, so they laughed and were no longer angry.

In my village in China, people are proud of being old. Not so many people live to be seventy or eighty, and people who reach such an age have the most knowledge and experience. Young people always respect older people because they know they can learn from their rich experience.

However, in the United States, people think “growing old” is a problem since “old” shows that a person is going to retire or that the body is not working well. Here many people try to keep themselves away from growing old by doing exercises or jogging, and women put on makeup, hoping to look young. When I told the couple in the restaurant that I respect the elderly, they got angry because this caused them to feel they had failed to stay young. I had told them something they didn‟t want to hear.

After that, I changed the way I had been with older people. It is not that I don‟t respect them any more; I still respect them, but now I don‟t show my feelings through words.

By Jack

C. many people reach the age of seventy or eighty

D. the elderly are the first to get food in restaurants

A. lost his job in the restaurant

B. made friends with the couple

C. no longer respected the elderly

Linda Evans was my best friend—like the sister I never had. We did everything together: piano lessons, movies, swimming, horseback riding.

When I was 13, my family moved away. Linda and I kept in touch through letters, and we saw each other on special time—like my wedding (婚礼) and Linda‟s. Soon we

were busy with children and moving to new homes, and we wrote less often. One day a card that I sent came back, stamped “Address (地址) Unknown. ” I had no idea how to find Linda.

Over the years, I missed Linda very much. I wanted to share (分享) happiness of my children and then grandchildren. And I needed to share my sadness when my brother and then mother died. There was an empty place in my heart that only a friend like Linda could fill.

One day I was reading a newspaper when I noticed a photo of a young woman who looked very much like Linda and whose last name was Wagman — Linda‟s married name. “There must be thousands of Wagmans,” I thought, but J still wrote to her.

She called as soon as she got my letter. “Mrs Tobin!” she said excitedly, “Linda Evans Wagman is my mother. ”【

A man went to see his doctor one day, because he was suffering from pains in his stomach. After the doctor had examined him carefully, he said to him, “Well, there‟s nothing really wrong with you, I‟m glad to say. Your only trouble is that you worry too much. Do you know, I had a man with the same trouble as you here a few weeks ago, and I gave him the same advice as I am going to give you. He was worried because he couldn‟t pay his tailor‟s bills. I told him not to worry about the bills any more. He took my advice and when he came to see me again two days ago, he told me that he now felt quite all right again. ” “Yes, I know all about that,” answered the patient sadly. “You see, I‟m that man‟s tailor!”

2. There is nothing serious with the tailor.

3. A man with the same trouble as the tailor a few days ago.

4. The doctor gave the man and the tailor the same advice.

5. The tailor was worried because a man couldn‟t pay his bills.

Do you know, I had a man with the same trouble as you here a few weeks ago可知本题所叙述的时间与短文内容不一致,因此可判断此题是错误的。

4. 选T。根据…and I gave him the same advice as I am going to give you可知答案。

4. After this experience, Jack _______.

A. lost his job in the restaurant

B. made friends with the couple

C. no longer respected the elderly

D. changed his way with older people

5. Which of the following is TRUE?

A. The more Jack explained, the angrier the couple got.
