The young turtle has been swimming for three months now in the same warm shallow bay, dreaming of calm water and plenty of food. But as the days begin to shorten and the night comes earlier and earlier, the water grows colder. It drops to fifty degrees Fahrenheit(华氏). Swimming is harder. Its heartbeat slows—and almost stops. The young turtle is in danger of losing its life.

Ten days before Thanksgiving, Max Nolan, a ten-year-old boy, and his mother begin their search for turtles who are often cold and trapped and seem dead—turtles whose lives they may be able to save. — 3 —

Max and his mother and the other volunteers do an important job. All sea turtles are threatened or endangered. Among them Kemp‘s ridleys are the most endangered. Right now on our planet there are fewer than eight thousand Kemp‘s ridley turtles left.

Max is far in front of his mother when he sees a turtle washed up by the surf. He runs up to it and shouts to his mom, ―Got one!‖ The turtle is cold. Its eyes are open, but the turtle is not moving at all. It might be dead or still alive.

Max remembers the instructions given to all the volunteers. He picks up the turtle, which weighs about five pounds, and moves it above the high-tide mark to keep it from washing out to sea. Then he runs to find seaweed to protect it from the wind. He finds a stick to mark where it is, and next, he and his mother go to the nearest telephone and call the sea-turtle hot line for help.

April will bring a new product – the Apple Watch – into the market. Last week,

the watch was firstly introduced by Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. The price of the watch

will differ from $349 to $1,099, depending on its size, strap and whether it is a

sports or regular version. Apple engineers and designers have put in a lot of thought and hard work into

creating this "small screen" on your wrist(手腕). The "sensor" on the screen not

only detects your finger, but knows the difference between when you are tapping, and when you are pressing harder.

The watch also has ―haptic feedback(触觉反馈)‖. You can send personal messages to your friend - such as drawing a star or a special sign with your fingers, or tapping the watch, say 3 times, and your friend will receive those taps on their wrist.

Besides telling the time, the watch will use 'bluetooth' to connect with your iPhone and show calls or text messages that come in.

According to Tim Cook, the watch may open up a whole new area of applications that we had never thought of. Some car factories like BMW have developed an app that allows its car owners to open their cars with the watch. A 'Hotels' app may allow you to open the door to your hotel room without worrying about losing the smart-card. And finally, even airlines are jumping in - passengers may be able to simply wave their wrist to check into their flight.

The biggest use of the watch, however, is as your personal fitness coach. The watch can measure your pulse (heartbeat) using a sensor at the bottom of the watch. It also has the same "accelerometer" as your iPhone, so it knows when you are moving, and also how much you are walking or running. It will remind you if you have been sitting for too long without much activity.

Many stores are planning to stop selling the Nike, Jawbone and FitBit devices(设备) to welcome the Apple Watch. Will Apple Watch really replace these devices and make fitness much more fun?

32. We can learn from the passage that the Apple Watch ________.

A. is designed by Tim Cook

B. was brought into the market last week

C. sells at different prices for different colours

— 4 —

D. will come into the market this coming April

33. With apple watch, you can ________.

A. develop your own personal app

B. connect your iphone with your ipad

C. receive personal messages from your friends‘ iphone

D. send personal messages to your friends‘ apple watches

34. Many businesses help push for the uses of apple watch EXCEPT ________.

As Keira climbed into bed, she thought about tomorrow‘s field trip. Her class was

going to a presentation by a West African traditional storyteller. Keira was excited because

she was of West African descent. Her great-grandmother had come to the United States from

Senegal, a country in West Africa. Until now, Keira hadn‘t thought much about her roots(根

源).

Early the next morning, Keira looked everywhere for something to show her West

African roots. She dug through every drawer, but she couldn‘t find anything that really stood

out. Finally, she put on a white shirt and jeans. Although she wore ordinary clothes, she hoped that her interest in her West African roots would not go unnoticed.

At the community center, Keira was lucky enough to get a front-row seat. The first speaker talked about African writers and how they often use traditional stories with traditional characters, such as the Tortoise and the Spider. The speaker mentioned writers her mother and grandmother liked! Also, Tortoise was a favorite character in Keira‘s bedtime stories. Finally, the speaker mentioned Doudou N‘Diaye Rose. He was Keira‘s favorite drummer. He was from Senegal. She began to realise just how much her West African roots influenced her American life.

Finally, the storyteller came up. He told a story that explained how the chameleon, a small lizard(蜥蜴), changed its colors. Then he introduced the Spider and Tortoise. It was known that they appeared to be generous but in fact they wanted to keep everything for themselves. Some of the stories made these characters seem poor as they fought for every last piece. However, they were simply naughty(调皮的). They certainly did learn their lessons!

Keira couldn‘t keep her mind from thinking about all the different stories her mother had told. Her memory was pouring out again! She knew about everything the storyteller said.

After the presentation, the class talked to the storyteller. Keira told about how her great-grandmother had moved to the United States from Senegal. Her great-grandmother left her village because of a , a time of hunger. She had explained to Keira‘s grandmother that the villagers spent days begging for food. Her great-grandmother finally came to the United States. Keira told the storyteller about those of her bedtime stories.

When Keira was finished, the storyteller pointed out that she had just done his job. She had described her family and the stories they told. Keira could hardly wait to tell her mother and grandmother the news!

36. Keria was ________ about the presentation on the evening of the day before.

A. nervous B. excited C. surprised D. unhappy

37. Keria wore ordinary clothes that day because ________.

A. the clothes made her stand out

B. they were her favourite clothes

C. she didn‘t find anything with West African roots

D. she didn‘t want to show others her West African roots

38. ________ was a favourite character in Keria‘s West African traditional stories.

Homesickness

Homesickness

What is the meaning of homesickness? When I worked in senior high school , I always heard that my classmates complained: “I miss my family very much.” I do not understand it until I went to college . To the best of my memory , I felt nervous at the first night which is the first time that I arrived in the totally new environment which is far away from my home .And at that point , I suddenly got its meaning that homesickness is a feeling when someone is far away from his or her home to accept a strange surrounding .

However , Why do we have the feeling of homesickness ? I do a survey on some college students , then I find something special .The main reasons of homesickness including the long distance and the finance .On the one hand ,for most of college students ,they are far away their hometown at the first time .They can’t see their parents who loves home everyday. They must rebuild a familiar relationship between students and teachers to adjust the new life by themselves .On the other hand ,they start to learn how to use money .And they often have difficulties because of different kinds of account on it .When they have no money ,they are remind of their parents right now. Of course there are some other reasons about homesickness. For example ,they miss mother’s cooking because the food is not delicious at the college’s dining room .Generally , there are many varieties of reasons to lead to homesickness.

Sometimes ,we feel sick just because of homesickness .Is it always bad for us? No, it isn’t .As far as I am concerned ,homesickness also present with an opportunity to grow beyond what we are while it can be painful. When we work to master homesickness ,we can increase our range of comfortable experiences which usually leads to increase self esteem and a sense of independence. So it doesn’t always bring us nightmare.

Though there are some advantages on homesickness ,you should overcome the depression because of homesickness, too. I think the uncomfortable feeling of homesickness will decrease if you work at shifting your thoughts from negative to positive .You just should clam down when you miss your family and you will feel better then .You can talk with your friends, roommates, or teachers when you are depressive .You can overcome bad feeling of homesickness step by step if you do not pay much attention on it.

Don’t hire homesickness ,and just enjoy it . It is a beginning to understand parents’ love and the importance of family for us.

Homesickness

When you are away from home for a long time, you may easily become homesick. You miss your family and friends very much; however, homesickness is far more than this. It is an action combining obsession, solicitude, and self-control.

Homesickness is an action of obsession. You may not realize how much you are obsessed with your home until you are away. Everything comes into your eyes makes you think of your home, especially something similar to the one in your home. You just can’t help making comparison and the result is always that the one in your home is better. You may feel that the food in your home is more delicious, the bed in your home is more comfortable, and even the color of the wall in your home is more beautiful. Sometimes, it is not always true. It seems that you are no longer conscious. Your heart is totally lost somewhere in your home.

Homesickness is also an action of solicitude. When you pick up the phone and call your family, what are the most frequent words from you? Aren’t they always “Is everything OK at home?’’ “How is mother’s health?’’ “Take care of yourselves” and so on. Even the telephone can sense your solicitude. What’s more, when you listen to the weather broadcast, you pay more attention to the weather of your home than that of where you are. Every time the weather changes, there must be another phone call.

Homesickness is an action of self-control as well. You may say, you miss your family, and then you can go home. However, things are not always so simple. There must be some reasons that you have to stay. Maybe you have to work here or you study here. You can’t stop working because you have a large family to support. And

you can’t give up your study for your parents place great hopes on you. All that you can do is keeping your strong feeling in heart and fulfill your responsibility. Self-control is not forgetting your home. On the contrary, it is real homesickness.

Everyone has his own definition of homesickness. Anyway, we will all find it moving and charming if we think deeply about it.

Homesickness

Only a person far away from home knows what homesickness is.

It is the welling up tears in your eyes, the lump in your throat, the waving hands when the train is drawing out of the station and taking you far away from home. It is the strength with which you walk the three miles to your home with heavy bags in your hands after a long tiring trip, and the halt, excitement, and hesitation at the doorstep.

It is the impatience, anxiety, misery, fear, and wild guesses when you are waiting for a letter from home. It is the never fading joy of reading it again and again in bed.

It is the unusual patience and indomitable willpower with which you go to the ticket office at midnight and stand in a long line before the small window, and the ecstasy when you at last get a ticket at ten o’clock the next morning.

It is the sudden delight of closeness that strikes you when you meet a person from the same town,

or even a stranger who has just been there. It is the eagerness to ask about everything, the trees, the hills, and your dear old folks. It is the sparkling eyes when you come upon a few words about your hometown in one corner of a newspaper.

It is the fear to sing “Home, Sweet Home” in case of a burst of tears. It is the murmur of “Mummy” in dreams. It is the mere thought of the homemade cake making your mouth water. And it is the small grocery next door and the shop owner’s friendly smile that keeps appearing in your dreams.

It is the sensitiveness you begin to develop. You cannot help daydreaming at the whistle of a train, and your eyes moisten at the sight of a house or even a tree that looks like the one in your hometown. It is the unspeakable sadness that creeps over you when you stand alone in the darkening dusk and see birds flying back to their nests and everybody hurrying home.

It is the silent sigh and faint pain in your heart when you begin reading the story, “That spring forty years ago, I waved farewell to my village and dear

mother…”

So warm a word is home, and such a sweet sadness is homesickness.

Easter is one of a group of days on which Christians (基督徒) remember the life of Jesus. On Good Friday they remember his death. On Easter they celebrate Jesus‘ rising from the dead.

It‘s a special, happy time for kids, just Christmas. There are cute rabbits for many centuries rabbits have been symbols of life. Rabbits have lots of babies and so they seem right for Easter. There‘s even an ―Easter Bunny (复活节兔子)‖, an Easter version of Santa Claus.【Have, you, heard,of,homesickness?】

Eggs are too. An egg can be the start of new life. At Easter, kids wake up to find their moms and dads have given them chocolate eggs with candy inside. They also have fun eggs.

The best thing is the ―Easter egg hunt‖. This is when parents, neighbors, sometimes the whole community, hide eggs in different places. They leave clues, such as a poster which tells kids where they can find the eggs. They have to until they find them. It‘s so much fun that you wonder why they only do it at Easter.

五、阅读填空。(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)【Have,you,heard,of,homesickness?】

A)阅读下面短文,根据所读内容,在文章后第56-65小题的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为56-65的相应位置上。

注意:每个空格只填一个单词。 ..

Do you understand ―OMG‖ when you receive a piece of text message like this? Its meaning is ―oh my god‖. Have you seen Brb (be right back), gr8 (great), cya (see you)–it‘s a lot easier to use abbreviations (缩写) when we text, isn‘t it? But while we might think nothing of it, there‘s an ongoing discussion that text messaging can have a bad influence on people‘s grammar. Many believe the abbreviations are giving

students bad habits when it comes to spelling and punctuation (标点).

Some teachers say that texting and social networking cause students to be lazy when writing. A study showed that young adults who often use text messaging find it rather difficult to turn back to correct grammar when needed.

But another view is that text messaging has no influence at all. Many people

consider it to be a language of its own. We could compare it to a foreign language which students learn. This doesn‘t have any influence on their native language.

Whether it‘s bad or not, it seems that text language is becoming very popular. According to another study, 64 percent of teens said they used informal (非正式的) ―text language‖ in their writing.

But it

‘s not just a matter of language. Students who text a lot during class may have difficulty paying attention. In another study, students were asked to complete a questionnaire on how many text messages they sent and received during class. On average, students sent more than two text messages during classes lasting 50 to 75 minutes. The study showed that students who often text during classes can‘t easily keep their attention on the lesson, which will surely harm their learning.
