Is there someone you hate? Well, maybe you don’t really hate them. But you get really angry every time you think of them. If you don’t let this anger go, it can turn into bitterness (痛苦).

Bitterness appears when we can’t forgive (原谅) someone who has hurt us or made us angry. Someone might say or do something that hurts us. But instead of controlling the anger, we keep it deep inside. Before long, a bitter feeling begins to grow. We may think we’re hurting that person by criticizing (指责) him or her often, but we’re really only hurting ourselves.

Bitterness can not only lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, but also hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys being around an angry person for very long.

If you see bitterness in your life, here are some ways to deal with it.

Accept it Instead of trying to deny your anger, make it clear to yourself and accept it. See your anger for what it is and quickly deal with it.

Stop making excuses for it

You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may think you’re right and the other person is wrong. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look bad. But in the end, bitterness hurts you much more than the other person. The bitterness will hold you back, and the other person will go on with his or her life. Forgive and forget it

You probably can’t completely put the anger out of your mind. But you can decide to forgive the other person. Forget it and move on. You’ll enjoy better health and peace of mind.

51. According to the passage, we might get angry when someone __________.

A. holds us back B. forgets us C. doesn’t like us D. does hurt us

52. Bitterness comes from ____.

A. our health problems like heart disease

B. the anger that lives deep inside our mind

C. the person who says something that hurts us

D. our relationships with friends and family members

53. The underlined word “deny” in the passage means “__________”.

A. 误解B. 否认 C. 疏远D. 减轻

54. The best way to deal with the bitterness is to __________.

A. make the person who hurts us look bad【山西阳泉中考各中学录取线2016】

B. hate the person who hurts us very often

C. accept that you are hurting the other person

D . forgive the person who hurts us and forget it

55. What can we learn from the passage?

A. We should enjoy someone who hurts us.

B. We should pay more attention to our friends.

C. The peace of mind is more important than the hurt itself.

D. It’s better to let bitterness go along with the other person.

When people think of water buffaloes, they often imagine wild and dangerous

animals. But unless they are hurt or angered, water buffaloes are probably

the gentlest farm animals in the world. Though they look scary, they are

much like household pets. Unlike cattle(黄牛), they are quiet and have

a natural fondness for humans.

Water buffaloes are so patient and gentle that there is no need to control them during milking. Because of the animal’s calm nature, water buffaloes almost never have their horns(角) taken off. However, most cattle which are raised for their milk will have their horns taken off, when they are young. It will prevent them from hurting one another when they grow up.

Another common wrong idea is that water buffaloes can be raised only near water. Though they love to roll in muddy water, water buffaloes usually live and have babies in situations where there

is not enough water to do this. However, several researchers report that water buffaloes who roll in muddy water do not need to be treated with insecticides(杀虫剂) because the mud (烂泥) coating that forms on their skin protects them from insects and parasites(寄生虫).

Another untrue belief about water buffaloes is that they can live only in tropical (热带的)areas. Actually, buffaloes are able to live in a wide range of climates. Although they are most common in the tropics, water buffaloes were used to pull snowplows(雪犁) in parts of Europe many years ago.

34. Why are water buffaloes’ horns not taken off ?

A. They don’t use their horns to attack.

B. They can’t have babies without the horns.

C. Taking the horns off is dangerous to humans.

D. Taking their horns off can kill the buffaloes.

35. The writer seems to think that most cattle_______.

A. don’t give milk B. are not gentle

C. make good pets D. like people

36. According to the passage, how can rolling in muddy water help water buffaloes?

A. It protects them from parasites. B. It washes insecticides off them.

C. It helps them have more babies. D. It keeps them cool in hot weather.

37. Which of the following statements best expresses the main idea of this passage?

A. People used to keep water buffaloes as household pets.

B. Many people have incorrect ideas about water buffaloes.

C. Water buffaloes used to be common around the world.

D. Water buffaloes and cattle have many similarities.

阅读下列短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出一个最佳选项。

THIS year the US Mint will honor one of the country’s most famous writers.

“Mark Twain”, the pen name of Samuel Clemens(1835-1911) is loved by American readers for his

novels Tom Sawyer(1876) and The Adventures of Huckberry Finn(1844).

Now he is going to have his life and work commemorated(纪念) with special gold and silver coins. But does Twain need to be commemorated? It doesn’t seem like people in the US will forget him. Twain once joked that a lack(缺少)of money is the root of all evil(邪恶)” but a lack of money with Twain’s famous face on it wouldn’t have made people forget about him.

The Adventures of Huckberry Finn is thought to be his greatest works.

Motherless Huck Finn is a young boy who shows the spirit of freedom. But it could be said that Huck’s freedom really comes from Huck wanting to fly. When Huck gets away from his violent(暴力的) father, he isn’t really looking for freedom, but survival.

It’s even more of a problem for a slave. Jim, the escaped(逃跑的) slave who Huck helps, makes Huck’s life seem even better. It’s easier not to be able to deal with someone who wants to force you to go to school than to have to fight a law that says you are a piece of property(财产). Huck and Jim’s friendship, as shown by Mark Twain, is one of the great stories in American literature because it shows a white character, Huck, who gets an idea of the African American experience. Mark Twain is famous and would still be famous without any special coins. Anyway, the coins could be a reason to look again at the work of a writer who got under the skin of the US in the 19th century.

With the race issue(种族问题) far from dead in the US today, perhaps Twain still has something to teach today’s readers.

38. Why is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn considered Twain’s greatest works?

A. It talks about how a black slave runs away from his violent owner.

B. It describes an everlasting friendship between people of different races.

C. It describes the social problem that a lack of money is the root of all evil.

D. It talks about a white American understanding the African American experience.

39. According to the passage, which statement is Wrong?

A. Huck gets away from his father for survival.

B. Jim escapes from his slave owner for freedom. C. Twain dug deeply into American society of his times.

D. Without the special coins, he’ll probably be forgotten.【山西阳泉中考各中学录取线2016】

40. The underlined phrase “far from dead” probably means _______.

A. still being there. B. Becoming more serious.

C. Being in danger. D. Gone for a long time.

41. What’s the main purpose of the article?

A. To tell the story of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

B. To tell readers about the special coins created to honor Mark Twain.

C. To explore why the US still remembers and honors Mark Twain.

D. To draw readers’ attention to the many race issues in the US today.

【根据名校试题汇编改编】 Health experts have long noted the importance of physical activity. Exercise improves not only your appearance but also your health. Exercise helps to reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease,stroke,type-two diabetes, osteoporosis and even some kinds of cancers.

America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. About 600,000 Americans die of heart disease every year. High blood pressure and high cholesterol(胆固醇)levels in blood can increase your risk of heart disease. Medical experts say both can be reduced through normal exercise.

Physical activity is also known to increase the release of endorphins(内啡肽).These chemicals reduce feelings of pain. They also help people feel happier and more peaceful. There is a debate about exactly what causes the brain to release endorphins. Some experts believe it is the act of exercise itself. Others say it is the feeling one gets from having met an exercise goal. Either way,the two things work together when it comes to improving one’s emotional health.

Exercise improves your energy levels by increasing the flow of blood to the heart and blood vessels. One of the main reasons why people exercise is to control or reduce their weight. Physical activity burns calories--the energy stored in food. The more calories you burn, the easier it is to control or reduce your weight.

So exactly how much exercise do you need to do to gain all of these great health effects? Experts say it is easier than you think. In 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its first ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The report included suggestions for young
