It was the end of the school term and my son Tom had less than three months left before he would finish his six years at high school. During this time he had developed a love for basketball. Sadly, because of my work over the last twelve months, I had only been able to attend a few of his games; however, I was determined to get to his last game for the school term.

Tom’s team came out in the first 10 minutes with a burst of goals that saw them leading by just over 20 points at the end of the first half. The second half changed as the other team quickly played themselves back into the game. Tom’s team started to miss an increasing number of shots. It was at that point that the coach called his first time out.

The noise of the spectators (观众) became quiet as the coach spoke to them. He had the team standing in a half circle, but he squatted (蹲) down, looking up at them and fiving some very calm and clear instructions on what they needed to do in the last couple of minutes. As he stood up to allow the team to return to the court, I saw him give some further words of encouragement to all of them.

You could see that he knew that the team was fighting to save the game and that he needed to lift them up. By squatting down he placed himself in a position where he was talking up to them, rather than down or at them, and as the players went back onto the court his words of encouragement served to lift their energy and spirits.

Well, Tom’s team went on to win the final by 5 points. As I drove away I thought about what can happen to us all in our everyday life. One of my favourite quotes is about the half filled glass of water --- “Is it half full or is it half empty?” Like the coach, the answer to this quote all depends on how you look at things.

Yasuda is 95 years old. Looking for easier ways to search the Web and send email, he bought Apple’s iPad. The company has sold 3.27 million iPads since they entered the market in April. James Cordwell, a researcher in London, says the iPad’s popularity with seniors is helping Apple reach beyond its traditional base of young customers. “The world’s population, especially in developed markets, is getting older. Seniors make up about 22 percent of the population in Japan. They may prove that seniors are willing to accept the iPad. Motoo Kitamura, 78, a former gas salesman, bought an iPad to help him communicate with his 2-year-old grandson and prevent him from experiencing some of the mental problems that sometimes come with getting older. “Trying new things like that is good mental exercise,” he says.

Last Friday, I was coming home late after spending time with friends and thought I’d go down to the $99 cent pizza place. On the way, I saw a man sitting on the stairs alone there. I’d seen him before every day I run late to work, but this time I had no place to rush off to.

There was something about him, a quiet manner, different from many of other homeless people I had seen in New York City. I walked past him, went to the pizza place, and those 10 seconds waiting in line was enough to practice stepping outside of my usual, familiar flow. So with a few slices in hand, I went back to join him. I asked him if he was hungry. He said yes, but not for pizza because it made him uncomfortable. This man I had seen almost every day was someone with specific conditions, needs, and experiences. We exchanged names and ended up talking for a little over an hour that night as Kevin told me stories from his life, how he had done things when “he was younger and didn’t know any better” and how he tried to make amends (补偿) but too much time had passed. He shared his views on the value for young adults to learn the history of other people.

He talked about his one wish being in his 60’s before he leaves this earth, which is to share his story with the teenagers and young adults so they could avoid the mistakes he went through. ①每一万名儿童中至少有5人患有自闭症,研究者尚不了解自闭症的病因。“从前的说法是,被母亲冷落的孩子会患自闭症。这是无稽之谈。”法兰克福大学儿童及青年精神病研究所所长弗里茨·保斯特卡说。现在人们确信这种病与遗传有关。科学家在7号染色体上发现了自闭症的基因标记。

②自闭症患者自我封闭。他们既不会表达自己的感情,又无法对他人的肢体语言予以适当的回应。例如患儿埃迪,他常莫名其妙地跺脚、叫喊,而且往往一闹就是1个小时。父亲克里姆说:“我们无法让他静下来。”也许父母曾要求他做不愿做的事,也许是屋里的摆设换了地方,总之变化会让他异常暴躁。

③起初医生建议埃迪的父母送他去儿童疗养院,但埃迪要等2年才能得到入院治疗床位。心急如焚的父母通过互联网了解到应用行为分析康复疗法,于是请克诺斯佩应用行为分析研究所的专家施拉姆来为孩子治疗。应用行为分析的发明者是美国加利福尼亚大学的心理学家伊瓦尔·洛瓦斯。他早在1987年就

宣称这种疗法取得了成功。保斯特卡说:“我们不应给父母打包票。”他认为应用行为分析疗法的疗效几乎是无法预知的。

④与其他自闭症疗法不同,应用行为分析疗法侧重向患儿传授实际的生活能力。父母与医生就像作拼图游戏那样将许多个阶段的学习目标组合在一起。小埃迪首先要学习说话,自己穿衣服,上厕所,并改善身体的运动机能。父母每周要带他作30小时的训练。

⑤母亲玛丽昂拿着一箱玩具和图片走到埃迪身边。“你的鼻子在哪儿?肚子呢?你叫什么名字?我是谁?拍一下小手。”她一口气说道。埃迪答对了所有问题。“太棒了!”母亲叫了起来,然后抱起孩子,托着他转圈。表扬非常重要,它能激发自闭症患儿学习的积极性。

“论坛和随笔”要算我的最爱。

自从结识了你——《阜阳教育》,我一直梦想着有一天我的文章也能在此发表,我的名字也可跃然纸上。有心人天不负,平时我留心地记教学笔记,终于在2010年的一天我灵感一来写了一篇教学心得,命名为《绿叶•红花 语文•数学――记一次难忘的考评课》,并请爱人李煦老师作语法上的斟酌,(毕竟我是数学专业的教师),然后小心翼翼地修改直到满意后投稿。在那之后,我一直在幸福中期盼,同时也有着莫名奇妙地纠结。由于种种原因我一直未能收到贵部样刊,不过,在年终的《总目录》中我总算得知自己心爱文章发表于11期,那种高兴的心情无以言表,甚至疯一般地在校园大嚷“我的文章发表了!”又是给爱人打电话汇报,又是到复印室拉原稿,又是在教室里让我班学生读这篇文章,唯恐天下人不知。为此我还搭上十元钱的糖来和学生共同分享成功的喜悦,并大胆地鼓励学生向我学习,学会分享,也

写写小文章投稿。一来显示自己的自豪,二来以身试教,达到潜移默化的效果。现在想起来,当时的高兴劲不亚于中奖500万。首次投稿就能成功,的确给了我无穷的力量,也坚定了我继续写作的决心。于是,一有可取的素材我就随时记下来,后来写的《沐浴在春雨中――记一次成功的观摩课》、《怎样做好家庭教育工作》也在贵刊中发表。在此,我特别感谢贵刊为我的《怎样做好家庭教育工作》作以修改并冠以贴切的标题。兴奋之余,我也在不断的总结和反思,自己毕竟文学功底还不深,还需不断地学习和充电。于是,我业余的时间便多读读有关教育教学的著作,这样不仅可充实自己,同时还有利于指导我的教学,使我的专业知识能再上新台阶。更可喜的是,今年六月我攥写的论文《高效组织教学活动 激活学生潜在思维――一节活动课的反思》一文在中国教育科研学会主办的“第四届中国教育系统优秀教学成果全国评选”活动中荣获二等奖。因此,特别感激你――我心仪的《阜阳教育》。

烈日炎炎,我骑车去编辑部,拜访我仰慕已久的“心上人”。近五点,我还认为不能如愿,然而,或许是心有灵犀,恰巧遇见刘金银主任。我说明来意,和蔼的刘老师二话没说就赏赐我今年一到五期的样刊,并且说“你来一趟也不容易,这五期送给你拿去看吧!”我如数家珍,闻了又闻,看了又看,一直爱不释手。短短几分钟的交谈,使我感觉到《阜阳
