Graduates’ pressure in finding jobs

Nowadays, more and more university graduates complain that graduation does not equate to employment. They experience great difficulties finding satisfactory jobs. What is the cause of this phenomenon

In my opinion, there are four causes:

First, graduates lack experience. They spend most of their time at school studying academic subjects and lack relevant job training. Only after graduation do they realize it’s hard to find jobs.

Second, competition among graduates grows more bitter and more bitter and bitter. The supply of university graduates exceeds social demand. This results in a decreased chance for any individual graduate to find a job.

Third, some students don’t study hard. Some of them skip classes just because they have no interest in certain subjects. Some play computer games or pursue other interests. Some sleep in class or in the library. Then they leave the sheltered environment of the university campus, to discover they don’t have adequate knowledge to apply for many positions, which makes them feel lost and frustrated.

Finally, some graduates are conceited. They lack experience but ask for a high salary, which is impractical.

So, university students should try their best to change this situation. When they are in school, they should make the most of their time and put their heart into their studies. They can hold part-time jobs in their spare time to accumulate relevant work experience. They should take part in some social activities and provide themselves with special training, if possible. When they graduate and apply for jobs, they should attach more importance to accumulating experience than to their starting salary.

In my opinion, this kind of pressure is mainly caused by three reasons. Firstly, the government is enrolling more and more university students year by year. And the growth of the students' number has surpassed that of the need of the society. So, when so many students graduate at a time, the chance of finding jobs becomes tiny. Secondly, today's university students, most of them are the "only-child", who are more mentally frail. Since they are indulged greatly at home and haven't been trained to do things on their own, once it is their turn to go out of the campus and find jobs

by themselves and decide what kind of jobs to choose, they feel bewildered and don't know what to do. If their first try fails, they will be frustrated and think that it is really hard to find jobs. Thirdly, some university students are not qualified for good and challenging jobs. After entering the university, they don't study as hard as they did in high schools. They begin to sleep during the class or even be absent for classes. Some are addicted to computer games or Jin Yong's novels, or step into the two-person-world too early. Because these things have taken up so much of their time and energy, their study is neglected. Every year a large number of graduates come into the society, then we are facing a problem---get a job. Because of the financial crisis, in recent years, the employment rate of university graduates is very low, which requires that we must have a clear career planning. And then we will be invincible in the work place. For that purpose, the present survey is made.

1.1 Purpose

The survey sets its goal at whether college students have a clear career planning to deal with future social competition. Then, through our survey, we can find the problem, and give suggestions on how to make a good career planning and improve the employment rate.

1.2 Subjects

In order to make the survey more persuasive, we did the research among students in our university, including freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. 100 copies of questionnaires in total were handed out and all of them were collected back which are effective. Interviewees are from different majors and different grades. 11 of them are freshmen, 42 are sophomores, 21 are juniors, and 26 are seniors. Among all the interviewees, include 44 boys and 56 girls.

1.3 Time and Place

Time: The survey took about one week, from November 18th to November 24th, 2013. The questionnaires were distributed on November 19th and collected back on November 20th.

Place: Qinggong College, Hebei United University

Questionnaires are used to collect data. Considering the questionnaire in English may bring some troubles to the interviewees with different English levels, we adopt the Chinese version instead of the English one (See English and Chinese versions in appendices). The interviewees are selected at random to make the data more reliable. For instance, the questionnaires are given to the students studying in classrooms and to those staying in dormitories. What’s more, students from all grades are made sure to participate in this investigation.

2. Date Collection and Analysis

On 19 November, we investigated 100 students, and all of them returned their th

questionnaires.

To ensure the validity of the survey, the six members in our team were divided into three groups to hand out the questionnaires, going to different places and investigating different students. Most of the interviewees were willing to help us with the survey. All the questionnaires were returned. On the whole, they finished the questionnaires carefully. Only few questions were answered casually, which brought us some troubles when we did the data collection.

In general, most of the information we collected was useful and accurate.

All the analyses are based on Question 2,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,11 and 13.

2.1 Analysis on college students’ career aims

According to Question 2 and 4, we get a result about whether students have a certain aims.

Result:

According to the figure, students with higher grade have more definite aims. On freshmansophomorejuniorseniorthe contrast, the number of students with uncertain arms or without aims was decreased. The sophomores are on condition of wandering.

Reasons:

1) The freshmen have more spare time and they are curious about everything, so they do not realize the importance of job.

2) The senior are facing graduation, and have to be independent, so they have a certain aims.

2.2 Analysis on career orientation

Question 3 and 8 are designed to know the relations between students’ majors and career orientations.

《关于大学生就业问题的英语演讲稿》

Ladies and gentlemen,

It’s a great honor for me to speak to you all here tonight. My name is sunny, from the department of mechanical engineering. I’m a happy, honest and easy-going girl.

Well today’s topic was about students’ employment.

The topic brought me back to the last summer vacation when I got my first part-time job through an agency. It was not a family tutor or something, it was about selling a house near the Olympic Sport Center in Nanjing. What I had to do was to introduce the house to some shop owners and take them to see it if they are interested in. I remembered clearly how I encouraged myself every time to enter a shop with the ad sheets in my hand. I remembered clearly how I tried to keep a smile said sorry to bother you when they turned a cold face to me. And I remembered clearly the heat sun of last summer, my sweat mixed with my tears every day I went back home. I had come a long way. There were plenty of times when I should have got beaten. However I kept holding on even at last I failed. I didn’t sell the house out. But the experience gave me a lot. Now I’m not afraid of being rejected or criticized. When hard work doesn’t seem to pay off, I see it as a blessing in disguise, for the faith in me never die, my spirit was never broken. I understood two words: try and persistence.

Today we face an economic slowdown, we panic at unemployment, and we hear too many complaints. Let’s have a quick review at our past 20 years. We worked hard for key high school, struggled to enter a better college, and when we finally get out of the campus, we are just like the flower buds, cannot wait to blossom quickly to display our beauty and fragrance to the society. But we find that we are now in a dilemma of economic crisis, our vigor, vitality and enthusiasm are gradually covered by the falling snow of worry, fear and self-distrust.

So tonight, I’m standing here to use my own story to summon up our courage and voice my opinion.

First, I want to say. Don’t be afraid. Even if we lived in a economic boom, we would still have to face other kind of pressure. So what we always need is persistence, self-belief and a dream.

So that’s the second. Choose what you like, set a goal and sail your life boat towards it. Everyone in the world has a dream, a goal, a vision, which is a driving power to pull you forward in life.

Third, keep a down-to-earth attitude on your job hunting. Maybe your first job is really unsatisfactory, but step by step, you get the top. Blood, toil, tears and sweat is a must during the process.

Four, never stop on the road of learning. It’s never too old to learn. We need to make our weapons shaper than before to tackle those new challenges.

Five, pay attention to your health, exercise more, smile a lot. Still there is six, seven, eight points should be listed here. Make the long story short, believe we are young, we have a bright future, job is just a part of it!

一、分析目的

虽然生活在“大学”这个象牙塔里面,但是就业是不可逃避的问题。如今大

三,虽然不像大一大二事情那么多,但是无法逃过自己内心的拷问——你的未来

在哪里?英语专业的就业如今向来不被看好,在杭电这个理工科的学校里更是如

此。来杭电召开招聘会的企业大多是电子科技类,面向英语专业的少之又少。未

知让人恐惧,但是一旦去尝试去触碰,困难就没有这么可怕。现写下这篇英语专

业就业趋势分析报告,为现在的安排、未来的就业奠定认知上的基础。

二、现状概述

1. 就业形势

随着世界经济一体化的迅速发展,特别是我国加入WTO以及2008年奥运

会之后,我国更加广泛融入国际社会,与世界各国的政治、经济、文化等领域的

交流活动日益频繁,与英语有关的行业如外贸、外交、海关、旅游、管理等涉外

工作部门获得前所未有的发展契机,使我国对英语人才的需求越来越越大。因此,

总体来说,就业前景还是不错,英语专业的学生如果英语专业知识扎实,毕业后

找工作不难。

在职友网上,2013年英语专业就业形势分析(按英语专业相关职位统计)中,

学历要求为本科的是48%,大专27%,不限学历19%。硕士3%,中专1%。经

验要求为不限经验38%,0-2年28%,3-5年27%。薪酬概况(按英语相关的职

位薪酬进行统计)为3872,随着经验要求正比上升。而英语专业在文学类中排

名第一。

但由于前几年外语专业招生过热,这几年总的就业形势已出现供过于求的局

面。其中,师范类外语专业需求量相对较大,师范院校的外语毕业生的就业较为

容易,甚至不少非师范外语院校的毕业生也愿去从教。所以,非师范英语专业的

学生将面临着更大的压力。

据劳动人事部统计,英语专业毕业生的就业率一直在各专业中居于前10位。

即使在近年来大学生就业普遍不景气的情况下,大多数院校英语专业毕业生的就

业率仍然保持90%以上,就业前景乐观。毕业生在走上工作岗位后,大都能发挥

他们的外语优势, 受到学校、外事部门、公司企业等用人部门的重视和欢迎。

随着中国经济发展进一步加快,中国和世界的联系也会加强,在一个较长的时期

内,英语专业仍会继续保持自己良好的就业前景。

2. 毕业生就业特点

(1)就业目标务实 薪资期望不高:就业形势严峻,毕业生对理想工作是否

放低了要求?调查显示,整体看来毕业生的就业变得更加务实。30%的求职者认

为理想的工作就是在有前途的行业里谋职;15%的毕业生并不要求高薪资,而是

强调公司要有激励员工的良好机制;要求专业对口、能学有所用以及要求薪资、福利好的毕业生分别有19%和17%;另有10%的毕业生认为在优秀的企业就职就是理想的工作;另外有9%的毕业生期望能在理想的城市工作,并能够落户。

(2)就业方向多元化:学校的宗旨是培养学生具有比较熟练的听、说、读、 写、译的技能;了解英美等国家的社会文化状况;有较好的汉语基础;能从事英语教学工作,或利用英语进行对外交流的适应社会主义市场经济需要的英语专业人才。同学的理想是能比较熟练地运用英语进行与国际商务有关的交流活动,尤其擅长在中外合资企业、外商独资企业、宾馆、涉外机构等单位从事翻译(包括笔译和口译)、外事文秘和管理等工作。

(3)心态不容乐观:对自己的就业前景持何种态度的问题上,同学在心态 图表 1 毕业生就业心态调查 上比较的悲观,大部分是由于对自身缺乏自信心,造成的.这是一个问题。择业的竞争在某种程度上也是心理素质的竞争,大学生在择业时面对来自各方面的压力,很容易出现不良的心理,严重的会出现心理障碍。这时,保持良好的择业心境就非常重要,它能使同学们理智地看待竞争,冷静地分析形势。坦然面对各种困难,乐观地消除障碍。所以,培养健康的择业心理,必须提高自身的心理素质,并因此才可能保持良好的择业心境。

三、前景分析评估

语言本身只是交流工具,单纯的英语人才市场需求已日趋饱和。另一方面来说,英语专业的就业方向很广,但是都不精。

我们总结一下三个跟英语专业联系大一点的就业方向:1.教师 2.翻译 3.外贸。

1. 教师

近几年教师行业相对饱和。一般来说,高中的教师资格证要求本科毕业,普通话二级乙等以上,一般教师公招要求具有教师资格证,英语四六级,或者英语专业四级或者八级(语专业等级考试只有英语专业的学生可以考),有些还要求通过PETS这样的等级考试。但是如今对老师的要求越来越高,仅仅是本科毕业是不够的,一些一二线城市,初高中的英语专业老师对硕士生、985/211学校毕业生青睐有加。大学英语教师一般至少是重点大学或外语类重点院校的硕士毕业生,部分重点院校只招英语博士毕业生了,很多大学招聘教师时对应聘者本科学校有严格规定,非211/985的一概不要。但如果去英语教育培训机构的话,门槛会相对放低。

2. 翻译

从传统的角度来看,翻译方向就业情况最好,翻译行业是座"富矿"高级翻译缺少九成多。就业面比较广,主要从事文化、科研、学校、新闻出版、经济、旅游以及其他企事业单位、行政管理部门的翻译、管 理、研究、教学等工作。中国现有在岗聘任的翻译专业人员约6万人,翻译从业人员保守估计达50万人,而有关抽样调查显示该数字可能达到100万人。当然最高端的同声传译、会议口译等翻译职位也急需高端人才,同声传译更是以每天3000元~7000元的高价位

居“金领”地位。国内市场需求量较大、人才紧缺的专业翻译人才主要有以下5个方向:会议口译、法庭口译、商务口译、联络陪同口译、文书翻译。但是翻译对一个人的专业水平要求、个人的文化底蕴要求很高。

3.外贸

相信更多的英语专业毕业的学生都从事外贸方面的工作。商务英语就业远景 经济全世界化、市场国际化的进一步深化,各个范畴都离不开英语人材,尤其是即懂商业贸易、市场营销、经济管理,又精通英语的复合型人材更是紧缺,商贸英语人材已成为各行业、各范畴的骨干人材、通用人材, 目前英语已成为事实上的国际通用语言,很多国家和地区都将英语指定为官方交流语言,活着界性国际集会、论坛和学术研讨会,在国际商务构和和国际商贸合约文本,在外资企业或合资企业事情中,英语已成为重要的交流工具,随着世界经济一体化的快速发展,特别是我国插手WTO往后,以及国际活动交流日益频繁的今天,我国越发广泛融入国际社会,与世界各国在政治、经济、文化等范畴的交流活动一天比一天频繁。与英语专业有关的行业如外贸、外交、海关、旅游、管理等涉及外交的事情部分获得前所未有的发展转化的关键,要得我国对英语人材的需求数量越来越大, 据劳感人事部统计,英语专业毕业生的就业率一直在各专业中居于前10位,即使在最近几年来大学生来就有业普遍不景气的情况下,大多数院校英语专业毕业生的就业率仍然保持90%以上.

大多数外贸企业相比于英语水平来说,更看重的一个人的交流水平和实际业务能力。具有较好人际交往能力和协调沟通能力的人会在此类工作中得到大量的机会。

4.公务员和考研

作为英语专业的学生考公务员可以分为两类:一种是考与英语有关的公务员;另外一种就是考与英语无关的公务员。相应的英语证书对于考公务员来说很有用了。与英语有关的公务员的话,比如说外事局、外交部(这个部门比所有部门都难考)或者与外语相关的部门,但是这种部门不多。如果说考与英语不相关的部门,那只要有个计算机2级证和TEM4就行了。公务员比的还是综合素质而不是专业素质。

而对于我来说,英语与其他专业知识的结合则是最理想的状态。所以,我们可以考虑跨专业考研。在具备良好的外语功底的同时,再加上相关方面的专业技能,如金融、贸易等,就更有在竞争中胜出的把握。因此,英语专业学生跨专业考研,一方面能提高学历和提升知识素养,另一方面能促进“单一型”人才向“复合型”人才转变,是英语专业学生一个较好的选择。如果决定要跨专业考研,在专业的选择上必须要深思熟虑。要选好专业,一是要根据自己的兴趣,二是跨考难度不要太大,尽量贴近本专业,这样复习起来比较容易。最重要的是,要充分了解所跨专业及相关要求。

英语专业学生跨考新闻专业具有一定优势,因为新闻专业不考数学,难度最低。从专业结合的角度来说,与新闻有关的工作,无论是报纸还是广播电视,英语水平高的人往往具有很大优势。国贸作为专为国际投资和国际贸易培养人才而设置的专业,对毕业生的外语水平要求很高。在瞬息万变的国际经济贸易领域,无论是商务谈判、合同签订还是贸易的具体实施,准确地与外商进行交流成了最重要的前提。所以,出色的外语水平是国贸人才必备的素质。

作为大四的学生,我们正面临着就业问题,我们必须了解目前的就业形势。

随着改革开放的深入,我国对外语类人才的需求也与年俱增,应该说前景是乐观的。但由于前几年外语专业招生过热,这几年总的就业形势已出现供过于求的局面。其中,师范类外语专业需求量相对较大,师范院校的外语毕业生的就业较为容易,甚至不少非师范外语院校的毕业生也愿去从教。

这是因为传统的英语教育是中学教育和大学教育,现在英语教育的年龄不断往前移,从以前的中学移到现在的小学、甚至幼儿园教育,所以对于师范类英语人才的需求还会保持一定的增长。从我们现有的师资来看,受过良好教育的英语教师还是非常缺乏的。

现在,整个社会发展情况发生了很大的变化,英语已经成为一种工具,越来越多的人能够自如地应用。早期的政府官员或企业的管理人员的英语水平不是很好,需要有专门的翻译来帮助,在一段时间内出现了翻译人才供不应求的现象。随着中国的开放,英语教育的逐渐普及,人们学英语的意识也在提高,学习英语的环境也在改善,很多企业家或管理者已经有这个技能,不再需要一个专门的英语人才来帮助他,这样对纯粹学习英语的人的需求就大大减少。同时,现在非英语专业学生的英语水平的不断提高使英语专业学生面临着许多强劲对手。所以,非师范英语专业的学生将面临着更大的压力。

非师范类外语专业中,需求量最大的是英语、日语、俄语、德语、法语、西班牙语,意大利语的需求也较大。这些语种的毕业生就业较为容易,高层次人才供不应求。而一些小语种的就业状况不太理想,如欧和亚非的一些语种,除韩(朝鲜)语、阿拉伯语基本持平外,就业都较为困难。目前,教育部对这些小语种的招生进行了控制。但小语种专业的学生如果能掌握一门大语种,则非常受欢迎。 英语专业就业情况

目前英语已经成为事实上的国际通用语言。很多国家和地区都将英语指定为官方交流语言。在世界性国际会议、论坛和学术研讨会,在国际商务谈判和国际商贸合同文本,在外资企业或合资企业工作中,英语已成为重要的交流工具。随着世界经济一体化的迅速发展,特别是我国加入WTO以后,以及2008年北京奥运会的临近, 我国更加广泛融入国际社会,与世界各国在政治、经济、文化等领域的交流活动日益频繁,与英语专业有关的行业如外贸、外交、海关、旅游、管理等涉外工作部门获得前所未有的发展契机,使得我国对英语人才的需求数量越来越大。

据劳动人事部统计,英语专业毕业生的就业率一直在各专业中居于前10位。即使在近年来大学生就业普遍不景气的情况下,大多数院校英语专业毕业生的就业率仍然保持90%以上,就业前景乐观。毕业生在走上工作岗位后,大都能发挥他们的外语优势, 受到学校、外事部门、公司企业等用人部门的重视和欢迎。随着中国经济发展进一步加快,中国和世界的联系也会加强,在一个较长的时期内,英语

专业仍会继续保持自己良好的就业前景。

除了就业,英语专业的学生出国的机会也相对较多。不仅如此,学生如果在学习期间有了新的兴趣点,也凭借英语专业的基础,轻松地转到别的专业或考取其他专业的研究生。

高等学校外语专业教学指导委员会所作的调查显示,传统英语专业人才培养计划所培养的学生,由于只具备单一的英语技能,已经不能满足用人单位的需要,人才市场对单一类型的英语毕业生的需求日渐减少。因此,英语专业人才培养必须转向复合型人才培养模式,只有这样才能满足国家建设和社会发展的需求。在近年的就业市场上,企业往往偏好有理工科背景的英语专业的学生,于是在英语专业的基础上分化出有较大生存空间和发展前景的科技英语专业。科技英语专业毕业生的就业形势呈上升趋势。 另外,随着我国对外开放力度的不断加大,英语学习早已从单纯的语言交流走向多元化,对既熟悉国际商务又熟练掌握英语的高级复合型人才的需求越来越大。英语就业方向设置为经贸及翻译方向和IT及科技翻译两个方向。

经贸及翻译方向毕业生能在国家机关、外事、外贸、外企、各类涉外金融机构、商务管理公司、专业翻译机构、出版、新闻、旅游、高级宾馆酒店等部门,承担商务管理、商务翻译、外贸洽谈、经贸文秘、英语编辑、英语记者、驻外商务代理、涉外公关、涉外导游等工作;也可在中学、中专、职高、技校和英语语言培训中心、大中专院校及科研部门等从事教学和科研工作。

IT及科技翻译方向毕业生能在IT行业、三资企业、涉外企事业

单位、研究所、情报所、新闻出版、政府机关等从事专业技术翻译、翻译管理、涉外行政管理、涉外工程管理、涉外市场销售代表等工作;也可在中学、中专、职高、技校和英语语言培训中心、大中专院校及科研部门等从事教学和科研工作。
