What’s My Line (台词)?

“One of my actors is sick! He has just one line and you’re the only one who fits his clothes!” One afternoon, the school drama director suddenly shouted to me. She seemed so nervous and worried that I felt sorry for her and said, “Ok”.

“You will be fine. It's easy!” She said. But it wasn’t easy at all. On the stage, four other actors and actresses spoke their lines, and I opened my mouth. Nothing came out. I couldn’t even breathe. I just wanted to leave. The next thing I knew, I was running off the stage.

As I was running off the stage, I accidentally knocked over a glass of grape juice that was on a table. The purple juice hit the girl next to me --- Andrea, the leading actress of the drama. She gave me a nasty look. I thought she was going to kill me!

But then, Andrea quickly said, “Darling, you’re so silly! Let's toast(干杯) to my darling’s silliness! Cheers!” She grabbed another glass of grape juice and drank it. The other actor quickly followed Andrea’s lead and saved the scene. The audience thought my mistake was part of the play!

D.Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题) (12分)

The Spirit of Christmas

Many would agree that when we think of Christmas, we probably think of gifts, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. But behind all these things lies the true meaning of Christmas: the importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. The story in A Christmas Carol is perhaps the best example of this.

A Christmas Carol is a famous novel written by Charles Dickens. It is about an old man named Scrooge who never laughs or smiles. He is mean. He only thinks about himself, and never treats others nicely. He just cares about whether he can make more money and he hates Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge sees the ghost of Jacob Marley, his dead business partner. Marley used to be just like Scrooge, so he is punished(惩罚) after he dies. He warns Scrooge to change his ways if he doesn’t want to end up like him. He also tells Scrooge to expect three spirits to visit him.

That night, three ghosts visit Scrooge. First, the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him back to his childhood and reminds Scrooge of his happier days as a child. Then the second spirit, the Ghost of Christmas Present, takes him to see how others are spending Christmas this year. Everyone is happy, even poor people. The last one, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, takes him to the future. Scrooge sees that he is dead but nobody cares. He is so frightened that he wakes up in his bed and finds out it is already the next morning----Christmas Day!

He decides to change his life and promises to be a better person. He happily celebrates Christmas with his relatives. He also gives gifts to people in need. He now treats everyone with kindness and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he goes. And that is the true spirit of Christmas!

A good trick doesn‟t leave lasting damage and always makes people laugh. It can even amaze them with its creativity. Some schools and universities have a long of students playing good tricks. These tricks sometimes include school buildings and cars.

The California Institute of Technology, a university in the US, has a special day on which to play big tricks. One time, a group of students took apart a car, moved the

parts into a student‟s room and then put the car back together next to the bed.

It was a quiet evening at an American high school. Going home, the headmaster got into his car and started the engine. It‟s quite that the wheels turned, but the car didn‟t move! It that some students had found a way to lift the car up so that its tires were just above the ground.

One morning in 2006, the staff at another American high school were to find a pink car on the roof. The car even had question marks painted all over it! The staff believed that many students must have worked together to complete this. The American trick in 2006 was a copy of British trick in 1958. That year, at the University of Cambridge, a car appeared on the roof of a building that was five storeys high. It caused a lot of trouble for police and firefighters as they had to cut the car into pieces to get it down. They couldn‟t find out who was , and the trick made headlines around the world. It was only fifty years that the students in the case proved who they were and how they played the excellent trick.

In fact, in the US, one in every few have become Internet success.

For example, Chloe Spencer‟s blog „Neopets Fanatic‟ gets around 300,000 hits per month. When Chloe was 15, she started the blog out of her strong liking for Neopets, a kind of pet website. One reason her blog has so many visitors is because she gives instructions and tips for the popular pet site.

Then there is Tavi Gevinson‟s blog „Style Rookie‟. It is

What’s My Line (台词)?

“One of my actors is sick! He has just one line and you’re the

only one who fits his clothes!” One afternoon, the school drama

director suddenly shouted to me. She seemed so nervous and worried

that I felt sorry for her and said, “Ok”.

“You will be fine. It's easy!” She said. But it wasn’t easy at all.

On the stage, four other actors and actresses spoke their lines, and I

opened my mouth.

I apologized to everyone after the play. To my surprise, they were not angry with me. They told me, “It’s all a part of being on stage.” I could be wrong, but I think I liked being on stage. I think I will try again.

The greatest wonder of the natural world

When I arrived, it was early morning and it was raining. I got out of the car, went through a gate

and walked along a path. In the east, the sky was becoming light, but beside the path, it was still very

dark. I knew it was there, but there was nothing to see.

After about a kilometer, a strange appeared in front of me. “Am I going the right way?” I asked. He knew where I was going. “Yes,” he replied. “you’ll get there in five minutes.” Finally, I came to some rocks, and stopped. I looked carefully over them, but it was still too dark to see anything.

Suddenly, the clouds cleared and the rain stopped. The sun rose behind me and beyond the rocks. I saw that the ground fell away and down to a river, far below me. I was on the edge of the Grand Canyon(大峡谷), one of the wonders of the natural world.

I looked down to the Colorado River about 2 kilometers below me. If you put three tallest buildings in the world at the bottom of the canyon, they still won’t reach the top. Then I looked across to the other side of the canyon. How far is it? It’s 20 kilometers, maybe more. Finally, I looked to my left and to my right, and on both sides of the canyon disappeared into the distance…over 400 kilometers long. The Grand Canyon is not just big. It’s huge!

That morning on the edge of the canyon. I asked myself a question. It’s not “How deep is it?” or “How wide is it?” or “How long is it?” but “Is the Grand Canyon the greatest wonder anywhere in the natural world?” I know the answer. But what do you think?
