Good and Bad Sides of A Utopia World

The Giver
The book The Giver is an anti-utopia fiction, it writesabout a world just like a communism world, in that world, people aren’t happyand have no characteristics, they are just like a person who has beenbrain-washed, like a robot.
In the fictionbook The Giver, people’s memories arecleaned by the government, they have no feelings, no weathers, no landscapes…..That’sbecause governors (which they called elders) think that all these things arebad for human. For example, snow will let plants get bad and cost traffics sothey make snow disappear In this case, nobody can enjoy a joyful snow fight ormake a snow man. The governor only sees the bad sides but doesn’t see the goodsides. Their world is a Utopia world, everyone gets thesame as others so that people won’t compare and won’t grow jealous. People alsowon’t have their own fashion and their own style of life, even theircharacteristics. In my view, people who live in that world is unhappy, they dowhat they are ordered to do，they do not make decisions by themselves, the leaders control themand let them do the things they want them to do, without passion and enthusiasm.
A Utopia worldmeans utopian socialism and communism. People are absolutely equal, no rich andno poor. There are no wars, no fights, no refugees, it’s absolutely peace.Every bad thing vanishes. Some people have tried to make a world just likeUtopia. In 494 B.C, a man named Hippodamos made a blue print of a city. It wascarefully designed. There were 3 kinds of people: manual labors, solders and farmers. Thesepeople were all in the same social levels. The city was an absolute manmadeone, every natural wild lives and things that made by nature had beenabolished. The city’s roads were straight, 12 houses were separated far away,so people could not communicate with each other and will notgrow jealous. Anyway, poor and rich people could not go there because at thattime, evolutions were often started by them, this is also why Hippodamos’s ideahadn’t been used by their king. This means that the society was carefullyguarded by the government. No evolutions, no conflicts. But in this systematicallycity, there would be no innovations, so the society would not develop.
Nowadays, aUtopia world is practicing, which is similar as communism, it is also calledsocialism society. In this society, people are equal, no one is higher and noone is lower. Although this society seems perfect, it still has many problems. Inthe 1950s,Chinahad made all the farmland own to the public. Farmers took part in differentfarming teams. People did work in the public land and got the same money. Theyate what they produced. At first, everything was fine, food is produced welland people were happy, but later, people became lazier, they thought that evenif we worked less than others we still got the same money. So people started todo less and less works and they did not have enough food for them to eat. Inthis case, people could not feed themselves, so they applied for supply from thegovernment. Slowly, every city and town was out of supply. Finally the governmentgot no food to give them. Luckily, the Chinese governments corrected themistake just in time. The government’s problem is that they thought people lovedto work, but in fact, people don’t have the consciousness of working, they just work for money and food. Everyonein a Utopia world is exactly pure, they have no bad sides. But in reality,everyone is alive human with different spiritual world, they have their own desires,so Utopia society is hard to come true in reality.
Anyway, Utopia is still a placewhere people yearn for, in that world, people are friendly to each other, andthere is peace everywhere. It is filled with harmony, it’s a place where peoplewant to go, either he is rich or poor. In a Utopia world, everyone is pure,they are born without bad behaviors. It is a kind of simple life that people wantto have. In reality, the world is very mundane, people cared money and materialstoo much. Only if people have enough materials, they begin to think ofspiritual lives. This ideal life is similar as a Utopia world. People are happythere.
Still a Utopia worldis a place where people imagine so that it is impossible to exist in real life.Our knowledge is not huge enough to fulfill everything so we are not even nearto a Utopia world. There is still a long way to go. In a Utopia world, peoplehave enough materials and it is a world filled with peace. But now, countrieshave conflicts because of resources and materials, which show people’s greedand lack of materials. There will always be conflicts, either in ideas or onforce. Anyway, all the conflicts come from different ideas.
In my view, peoplestill haven’t developed enough, but we have that dream, the only thing we cando is to keep moving on, keep developing, and let us have the foundation to goin to spiritual lives. Let’s make our own marks in it.
